September is always a fresh start in the nursery world. We’ve had the sad goodbyes with those leaving for school during the summer months; but then lots of new children start and the year begins again…
The first month is all about visits, and getting our new starters settled in. Some children seem like they’ve always been with us, and others have a little separation anxiety. This is something the nursery practitioners are used to, and it is part of our job to ensure that each child is comfortable.
The Genesis Daycare Nursery in Rochdale was awash with colour and wonderful aromas this week. The children and staff celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr as they dressed up and enjoyed some delicious food together.
Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the major celebrations of Islam. It comes at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and marks the end of the fasting period.
Staff and children were delighted to welcome Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk to the Milnrow nursery to hear first-hand how funding shortfalls are affecting the childcare industry.
His visit follows a meeting with several providers from the Rochdale area who have raised concerns about government funding for two, three and four-year-old children.
The annual open day at Genesis Day Care’s Milnrow Nursery was enjoyed by parents, children and staff who took part in a range of play activities, learning experiences and fun on the bouncy castle.
Genesis staff baked a selection of cakes for the day, and visitors were able to make a donation towards a local charity.

Everyone at Genesis day care nursery in Milnrow celebrated a special milestone this week. To mark twenty years’ service, cook Karen Gilbert enjoyed a surprise reward from her childcare colleagues.
Karen has cooked healthy meals for around sixty children and the nursery staff every day since 1995. That equates to an incredible 300,000 servings.
A Winter Wonderland chill blew through Genesis Day Care Nurseries in Rochdale and Milnrow this week.
There’s no snow outside, but the children and staff welcomed a parade of penguins! Children from both nurseries had fun creating masks and learning Christmas songs as they prepared for the end-of-year parties.
