The Genesis Daycare Nursery in Rochdale was awash with colour and wonderful aromas this week. The children and staff celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr as they dressed up and enjoyed some delicious food together.
Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the major celebrations of Islam. It comes at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and marks the end of the fasting period.
At Genesis Nursery we celebrated with different activities throughout the day. The children and staff looked beautiful in their traditional clothes. They all enjoyed party games and danced to traditional Asian music. We also had Henna painting, face painting and make some great party hats.
The idea came from a parent who suggested that we should have a nursery party to mark the occasion, so the staff team jumped on the idea and put together the essential elements to make it a lovely party day.
Parents brought in homemade traditional foods (I’m sure you’d use the word ‘sumptuous’ if you could see and smell the fabulous dishes), and the children had an amazing time tasting them all.
Our Rochdale cook made chicken curry with rice and nans for lunch, and we had an afternoon tea of samosas, onion bhajis, poppadum and raita.
