Genesis celebrates three ‘GOOD’ Ofsted inspections

In recent months, all three Genesis Daycare Nursery settings have been inspected by Ofsted. Both nurseries (at Rochdale and Milnrow), and the Out of School Club at Milnrow Parish Primary School, achieved ‘GOOD’ awards.

Hallowe’en week in the Holiday Club

The children have been kept busy bees at the Genesis Nurseries holiday club this week, but they were eager to help out. They have been making toffee apples, carving some fabulous pumpkins, decorating masks and creating some wonderful Hallowe’en decorations.

New term, fresh start
New term, fresh start

September is always a fresh start in the nursery world. We’ve had the sad goodbyes with those leaving for school during the summer months; but then lots of new children start and the year begins again…

The first month is all about visits, and getting our new starters settled in. Some children seem like they’ve always been with us, and others have a little separation anxiety. This is something the nursery practitioners are used to, and it is part of our job to ensure that each child is comfortable.

Celebrating different cultures

The Genesis Daycare Nursery in Rochdale was awash with colour and wonderful aromas this week. The children and staff celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr as they dressed up and enjoyed some delicious food together.

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the major celebrations of Islam. It comes at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and marks the end of the fasting period.

Back to pre-school for Rochdale MP

Staff and children were delighted to welcome Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk to the Milnrow nursery to hear first-hand how funding shortfalls are affecting the childcare industry.

His visit follows a meeting with several providers from the Rochdale area who have raised concerns about government funding for two, three and four-year-old children.

Milnrow Nursery Open Day

The annual open day at Genesis Day Care’s Milnrow Nursery was enjoyed by parents, children and staff who took part in a range of play activities, learning experiences and fun on the bouncy castle.

Genesis staff baked a selection of cakes for the day, and visitors were able to make a donation towards a local charity.

Milnrow nursery children get eggs-cited!

The Genesis Milnrow nursery went back to nature in May and enjoyed a cracking good time. As part of the ongoing educational programme given to the young children, the nursery received chicken eggs and incubators from Living Eggs (a Yorkshire company), and Mother Nature did the rest.

The experience is designed to teach the children about the wonderful cycle of life, how to look after living things, and also about the importance of hygiene and cleanliness.

Rochdale MP meets nursery owners

Genesis Daycare Nursery and several other childcare providers met with Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk this week to discuss how government policies are affecting nurseries.

In recent years a number of Local Authority services have been lost because of government cutbacks. Staff training, SEN provision and general support services have all been affected.

Milnrow cook’s recipe for success

Everyone at Genesis day care nursery in Milnrow celebrated a special milestone this week. To mark twenty years’ service, cook Karen Gilbert enjoyed a surprise reward from her childcare colleagues.

Karen has cooked healthy meals for around sixty children and the nursery staff every day since 1995. That equates to an incredible 300,000 servings.
